What food is Rush? Part 2

Love them or hate them, Rush has made an impact on the R'n'R landscape. Undeniably unique, talented and singular, Rush fans are some of the most devoted music fans that anyone could ever ask for. Their story is a novel, filled with dazzling high points and tragically deep lows. One thing you have to give it to Rush, is they were relentless in their pursuit of finding their own musical identity, even when confronted with the possibility of being dropped from their label. They did it their way and it worked.

 

Today, Jamie Ryan and I will continue our deep dive into Rush's history, starting with the release of 2112 and moving towards the present. We will also unveil and devour the food that we've determined as the esculent sidecar to Rush's musical career, followed by a carefully chosen wine pairing selected by yours truly. No list of Seattle rock bands is complete without the utter powerhouse of grunge stalwarts Pearl Jam. Eddie and the crew have been cranking out album after album, tour after tour for over 30 years. Pearl Jam created a template for alternative rock copycats to cash in on, but none of them were able to dethrone the rightful heirs of grunge’s answer to classic rock. 

 

On this episode of TBCBYF, we are joined by features editor for Bloomberg Businessweek and former editor for the New Yorker, Jeremy Keehn. Years ago he created one of the first websites for Pearl Jam tape trading around the world way back before anyone knew what the World Wide Web even was.

 

Join us as we start working our way through the thick history of Pearl Jam’s roots, former bands, and the secret sauce that helped them create some of the most iconic alternative rock in the 90’s. Although the band carries on in the absence of 2 pivotal members, (RIP John Entwistle and Keith Moon), The Who continues to fly the bullseye banner for Maximum R’n’B. Joining me today is musical scholar and composer, Eric B. Chernov, a lifelong Who aficionado who has been writing his own book about the band. What food is NRBQ?

NRBQ is fondly known as the greatest bar band in America, if not the greatest bar band in the world. Although they’ve never reached the forefront of pop-music fame, they’ve managed to gain the admiration of everyone with the their finger on the pulse, including such luminaries as Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt, Keith Richards, R.E.M.,… and the list goes on infinitely.

What food is Pat Benatar?

After two nominations and endless support from her dedicated fans, Pat Benatar has finally been inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her musical partner and husband, Neil Giraldo. It is puzzling why this inevitably took so long, since the music of Pat Benatar has been prominently featured on classic rock stations for decades, not to mention being a pillar in the foundation of MTV's heyday. Hopefully these accolades will help put her on the modern rock ladies Mt. Rushmore forevermore.
